You may have heard about some malls and stores across the county banning heelys, tennis shoes with wheels in the bottom. We recently noticed a local gas station posted a sign prohibiting the shoes with wheels in the heel.
An employee tells us kids were running into things and people inside.
We talked to a woman with the Peoria Brain Injury Group who says children should wear helmets if they are wearing Heelys.
“If a child is healing and he falls and slips and has a concussion, it can actually effect that child all the rest of his life as far as memory and learning and people don't understand that,” said Chris Hess of the Peoria Brain Injury Group.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the shoes were related to around 1,600 emergency room visits last year.
However OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and Methodist Medical Center tell us they haven't had any injuries reported due to the shoes.
Pulse of Peoria highlighting the Mind to Run event will air from July 31- August 9th 2008 on all five stations of the Regent Broadcasting.

Community Focus
In this episode of Community Focus, Pat Keim speaks with Chris Hess and her daughter Jennifer about the Peoria Area Brain Injury Support Group. They will discuss what the Brain Injury Support Group does, when it meets and who is included. This brain injury support group includes people who have had a trauma injury to the brain but also includes people who have brain cancer and strokes. The support group is made up of the caregivers. It gives caregivers a chance to discuss with others the challenges they face as caregivers to people with brain impairments.
